About Employers First
Our region’s economic success depends on our ability to provide a qualified workforce. Businesses increasingly need higher skilled workers to succeed in the new economy. Yet, despite high unemployment, one-in-three local businesses struggle to find qualified workers for in-demand jobs, and nearly half expect difficulty in the next three to five years. The problem? Fragmented services that are difficult for employers to navigate, and an inadequately prepared workforce that lacks the technical and professional skills demanded by employers. Employers First was created to supply businesses with the talent they need to compete and grow in the Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana region.

The region’s workforce leaders have joined forces through Employers First to better meet employer needs. For 10 years, the four workforce investment boards that serve the region along with the Northern Kentucky Chamber have worked together to serve employers with coordinated hiring activities and layoff services. Since 2008, Partners for a Competitive Workforce has brought together private and philanthropic funders to help develop talent pipelines for the health care, construction, and advanced manufacturing industries.

With support from a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, leaders from the workforce boards and Partners for a Competitive Workforce came together to jointly create a regional public-private partnership called the Employers First Regional Workforce Network to align and coordinate workforce services for the employers of our region. Together, Employers First will mobilize the region’s resources to make sure employers have the talent they need to succeed.
